Well we are now 3 days out from the tournament…
…and still no boat.
The seller never titled it in his name when it was originally purchased. He finally did AFTER I made the offer (which was made before I knew this was the case), and we have been waiting for the titles to show up in his mailbox ever since.
Could I have backed out and got something else? Of course. But I really like this boat and know that it is the one for us long term.
And so we wait.
Change of Plans
No boat means no fishing. But it doesn’t mean that we can’t still go and learn something.
Instead of hauling the boat to Lake Limestone I’m hauling our camper. We have a spot right at the boat launch and plan to be there at 5am on the day of the tournament, watching how it all goes down.
How do you launch 100+ boats on tournament day, with enough time for everyone to make the start? I have no idea.
Then we’ll see what the weigh in looks like at the end of the day. And by checking in the boys WILL receive points. The rules state that the team will received 25 points less than the last-place team. Sure beats a zero.
Plus our school has two other boats and they will be there. Showing up and showing support for the greater team will be another big win for the day.
Life Lessons
There are definitely worse ways to spend the day.
I hear the dock fishing there is pretty good, so maybe we’ll catch something anyway.
The real win will be to go out and learn something while spending time as a family. And there are some lessons in here about patience and expectations that I need to keep in mind while tempering my own disappointment. The attitude I adopt will roll down to the team so it needs to set the right tone.
As they say, 80% of success is simply showing up.
